Acupuncture has been used in China for over 4,000 years and is one branch of Traditional Chinese Medicine. A thin sterile needle is inserted into the body at particular points to move "Qi" or energy through a system of meridians or energy channels within the body, thus eliminating obstructions that can cause ill health.

Does it hurt?
Acupuncture needles are much thinner than the usual needles used by western doctors, therefore the sensation on insertion is minimal. On stimulation of the needle you will feel a mild sensation around the needle or down the channel associated. This ceases once stimulation of the needle stops.

What can it be used for?
Asthma, back pain, indigestion and stomach disorders, insomnia, lack of energy, menstrual disorders, migraine, menopausal symptoms, sinusitis, sports injuries, and various other physical and emotional problems.

Traditional Chinese Medical Assessment:
Chinese Medicine takes into account the "whole" person and not just the ailment; therefore a detailed assessment is carried out on each client.

Details required will include current and past western medical treatment, family history, current lifestyle and diet, physical, mental and emotional stresses, all symptoms and signs you are currently experiencing.

Diagnosis is based on the above information in addition to feeling the pulses of the wrist on both hands and looking at the tongue for colouring and shape. These techniques enable the practicioner to assess energy imbalances and/or blockages within the body and meridians.
